Replacing a Stainless Steel Refrigerator Door

I found an article that makes the task of replacing a stainless steel refrigerator door almost seem easy. First, it says to wear gloves, so you don’t leave any kind of marks on the surface.  The article assumes that the machine is unplugged, disconnected from the water supply, and that the old door is already off. Second, position the door… Read More

Are Your Dishes Scummy with Residue?

If your supposedly clean dishes are coming out of the dishwasher with a scummy residue, then there are a couple of things you should consider: 1) Make sure your machine has plenty of rinse aid.  Usually the intake for this helpful blue liquid is located in the door near the soap dispenser. 2) Check your owner’s manual in regards to… Read More

Keep That Microwave Clean!

I found an article that shows just how easy it is to keep your microwave clean.  Despite how often most people use their microwave, it’s often neglected when it comes to maintenance. First clean it with club soda and a wet towel.  Then, dry it with a paper towel.  You can nuke away food odors by microwaving a mixture of… Read More

Appliance Consumers Consider Energy Efficiency Over Safety

According to a new Underwriters Laboratory (UL) survey, the majority of consumers shopping for appliances consider a product’s energy efficiency, but do not consider the product’s safety rating. UL wants to change this, and has launched a brand new website to inform consumers on a) the state-run rebate programs, and b) the safety rating for the various brands and models… Read More

We’re all about doing household projects yourself, but raccoon removal is best left to the professionals.  You do not want to wrestle a rabid raccoon.  So, the first step is to call your… Read More

What are the smart grids, anyway?

I’ve recently been blogging about the upcoming appliances that will be able to communicate with smart grids.  What are those smart grids anyway?  Well, I found this article from CBS that further explains this initiative. Millions of households will receive home energy information displays over the next few years.  They will be able to monitor their energy usage and make… Read More

Gifts That Keep On Giving

Major appliances aren’t usually thought of as obvious gifts during the holiday season.  Nevertheless, an interesting trend is developing this year. Stores like Sears, Home Depot, Lowe, and others offered promo packages on Black Friday for major appliance sets, mostly for laundry pairs.  Severe discounts were offered for Electrolux, LG, Amana, Maytag, Duet, and more brands. The gambit worked–according to… Read More
