New GE Hybrid Water Heater to be Available

The new Hybrid Water Heater from GE will soon be available throughout North America by the end of January.

This new appliance is said to be 62 percent more efficient than an older electric water heater and can save consumers hundreds of dollars every year.

Along with the usual resistance elements and the latest in heat pump technology, GE’s hybrid water heater draws heat from the surrounding air to heat the water.

How to Clean Freezer Condenser Coils

It’s necessary to clean the condenser coils on your refrigerator/freezer.  The coils are designed to expel the heat drawn out of the freezer compartment.  If they accumulate too much dust, they may not cool enough to keep the freezer working properly.

Electrolux Design Lab 2010 Has Theme

The Second Space Age is the new theme for Design Lab 2010, an initiative of Electrolux.

Undergraduate and graduate industrial design students are encouraged to find new ways to design appliances that take into account the decreased living space people have in these modern times.

As the population explodes over the next 40 years, we will need new ways of washing our clothes and storing our perishables.  Enter Design Lab, which cultivates young minds and fresh ideas.

Electrolux Win Green House Design Award

It must be award season in the Appliance world again, as Electrolux has won another award.

This time, from the Housewares Design Awards Program.  One of its vacuum models, the UltraSilencer Green, is the winner of this prestigious award.  It is made from 55% recycled plastic and runs on reduced electricity, decreasing noise.

China to Receive GE Smart Grid Technology

With a government tailor-made for smart grid technology, the Chinese city of Yangzhou will be the staging ground for GE to introduce its smart grid to the region.

Needless to say, China’s demand for energy has increased dramatically in recent years, so the advent of this new technology holds quite a lot of promise.  GE will have a demonstration center in Yangzhou displaying all of the major components of a smart grid system: the smart meter, compatible thermostats, new smart appliances.

Electrolux Eureka Vacuum Wins Good Design Award

Electrolux has won a Good Design Award for its Eureka Zuum Z-series vacuums.

Electrolux was presented the award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, along with the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Sears Introduces Smart-Motion Laundry

Sears has introduced the next generation of their Kenmore and Kenmore Elite laundry machines. These new washers feature so-called ‘smart-motion’ technology.  Smart-motion, of course, has nothing to do with the big gov’ment conspiracy that some people think the smart-grid technology represents.

No, in this case, smart-motion refers to the drive motor that controls the speed and agitation of the washer drum. Five different settings provide different levels of agitation to accomodate various different kinds of clothes.

Whirlpool Supports Retirement Benefits for Former Tennessee Employees

According to this article, Whirlpool has fashioned an $11.7 million bond to support roughly 1,500 former employees of a closed Tennessee plant.

The plant has remained closed since August 2008.

Whirlpool will give the bond to Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation to pay out to the former Whirlpool employees.
